Offer Verses Serve
In an attempt to reduce food waste, amendments to the National School Lunch Act introduced the Offer Verses Serve (OVS) provision. This amendment mandated that students may choose any three, four or five lunch components. A student’s decision to decline food items does not affect the charge for the lunch. All students must take an entrée - which includes the bread or grain. A student does not have to take the milk. However, all students are encouraged to take the entire lunch.
Students bringing lunch from home may now buy any side dish offered that day,
or water for $.50, milk $.35 or Soy Milk (when available) $.60
